USL-Y Finals in Florida Tampa Getting Around

For those who have been there,

is it worth renting a car or using uber?

car rental will cost close to $500 for the whole trip including estimated parking cost. Have to find parking every day.

or use Uber estimated at around $300 for the whole trip. Don't have the need to park it and dependent on ride availability.

which one will be more convenient?

Rent the car. Try to share with another family going. Not sure wheee you’re staying but if it’s not close to fields you’re gonna be ubering in rush hour. There is amble parking at the facility so that’s not an issue. But you pay every day.

Either rent a car or carpool with another family. Traffic and parking at/around the fields was tough last December. Allow plenty of time to get to the venue (sometimes it took 30+ minutes to park even after arriving there).

car rental is worth it. Most go down for things outside of soccer. Clearwater beach, breweries, breakfast, cuban coffee, bush gardens, waterside, hockey games etc etc. you will want autonomy and get rental.

We flew into Orlando and rented a car from there. I remember vividly that it was under $100 total for the whole long weekend (not counting parking or gas, just the rental), and we avoided any extra charges at the counter.

Not to say it's worth the extra drive between Tampa and Orlando just to save on the rental car, but we stayed with friends in Orlando on the front and back end, which was part of the 'justification' for the trip. And leaving early from Orlando and going back mid-day from Tampa, we hit some traffic on both ends, but not too bad. Probably less than 90 minutes of total driving in each direction

We did go to Clearwater one afternoon and got clobbered with traffic, and of course we got charged for parking every day at the tournament (and it was a pain to get into the lot), but otherwise it was a great experience. You will see a lot of familiar jerseys from teams in this area.

Only one game a day will leave you with a ton of extra time. Plus you’ll need to get food. Rental for sure.

Renting a car will be way more convenient. Getting to and from the airport and the field without waiting for Ubers or waiting on other people. And unless you are staying where everything is walkable you will inevitably need to make ad hoc trips to stores to get snacks/drinks for the field or the toothpaste or shin guards you forgot to pack. The only downside to a rental car is the cost. Look for discounts through costco or priceline. You can also look at turo.com
