What is an "Honors College"?

People here sometimes ask about the "Honors College" at some university. This is a new term to me. What does it mean? What does an Honors College include? How is it different? Thanks!

Not much. Can be:

A scholarship/discount
A seminar series.
Preferential access to class signups and research/internships
Sometimes has a separate dorm

Make the kid feel better about slumming at a muggle college instead of Hogwarts

Honestly, it's just a silly designation that, as the PP said, doesn't mean much. My DC dropped out after realizing she had to do mandatory classes that had nothing to do with her major, and she also clicked more with people outside the "honors" college. I think it was a good move for her.
