This is precisely what some of us here have been arguing—the ivies and other private schools are coddling their students too much. I blame US News for this. They put way too much emphasis on four-year graduation rate.

I don’t see anything about coddling.
Why are people surprised that a school with a 3% acceptance rate with the expectation that a significant chunk of their students have national or international recognition in something along with being academic superstars are doing well in school? Admissions 3 decades ago was a joke compared to now, and I’d argue the high failure rates were because the students truly were incompetent and faced less pressure. |
