DH and I saw every episode way back when and loved it. Our 17 year old is dying to watch it (fine) but her 14.5 yo sister wants to watch it with us too. We have always struggled with stuff like this as a family when oldest is ready for something but we want to do things together.
17 yo says she is watching it in college next year if we don’t watch it before she leaves, which is totally fair. But I do want to watch with her. Just trying to get a gut check here. Would you let a mature 14.5 year old HS freshman watch it? |
| No. I think like 16-17. If you are rrsponsible enough to operate a dangerous machine like a car you can watch it |
|
Of course. Anyone over age 12 can.
You know your 14.5 child, will the dark scenes keep them up at night? But why is the 17 year old not allowed to watch it anytime? Really bad parenting to make the 17 year old wait for the 14.5 year old for anything. Your kid will go to college and never come home again. |
| I’d push it off as far as you can because it’s legit disturbing in many ways, but at 14.5 you are basically on the verge of losing control over what she watches so maybe its time to just take the L. |

A: When your kid is ready to process concepts like incest, can handle realistic violence and gore, and won't be traumatized by nudity and explicit sexuality.
My oldest is 17 and could probably handle it (but doesn't want to ). My 13-year old would want to watch because FOMO, but isn't emotionally or mentally ready. The older kid will come to me with questions and thoughts. The younger doesn't verbalize their feelings and tends to act out. It's not just their age; the decision has to consider their personality and abilities. A lot of this also depends on the kind of relationship you have with your kid(s) and what sort of media they've already shown an ability to handle. If Harry Potter freaks them out, well, this isn't for them. If they get squeamish about blood or violence, this is a bad show for them. If you can't have open, honest dialogue about sex, or they don't have a trusted adult they can turn to for questions and discussion on sexual topics, there's too much sexuality in this show for them.

Where is your kid watching GoT without your knowledge and why can't you control for this? |
