Place to donate Halloween candy to SNAP folks?

Anonymous
Just so worried about people going hungry as a result of the cutoff of SNAP.

Is there anyplace we can donate extra Halloween candy? I remember we used to have a program like this to help the troops in Afghanistan.

I'm sure you could drop it off at one of the local food banks, but they do have a more specific list of items they need. Where specifically are you located?

Candy is not food, and also SNAP beneficiaries with kids can trick or treat too. I don't think this is a useful donation. Donate real food, please.

If you're looking to offload candy, Ronald McDonald House typically accepts it.

Then donate actual food or give money to food banks so they can buy in bulk.

The candy for troops program was to give the service members treat since their meals are provided. You’re looking to dump sugar on people that need actual food.

Donate some cans of real food. You can't be so cruel as to think poor people should eat garbage.

Take the money that you would spend on candy and donate it to a food bank.

I think OP means they won't be able to afford to buy halloween candy to hand out. Understandable concern, given how expensive candy is these days.

No they don’t. Read their post. They are worried about people being hungry and offloading extra candy.

OP is such a “let them eat cake” which is truly disgusting.

How could you possibly get that from the OP?

You're worried about hungry people and you think the solution is buying candy?

I am poor. We don't want your Halloween candy. We want beans, vegetables, fruit, pasta, peanut butter. Most families want meat. You know, the same things you feed your own family.

Not even buying... donating "extra" candy so probably all the crap candy her kids won't eat. Really magnanimous to help hungry people.

I know you mean well but really you want to feed people who were hungry candy? That’s not the answer. The answer is to call your send it to a congressman and tell them to reopen the government. I don’t care if you’re in Maryland or Virginia.

OP is worried about hunger but wants to donate candy.

Logic fail.

This. Why even hand out candy anyway? I always do mini bags of pretzels/gluten free puffs.

I'm sure kids are thrilled to receive these.
