How long do you think top SLAC AO's spend reading each file?

I'm guessing it's longer than the AO's at major state schools.

What's your guess for an average amount of time?

10-12 minutes? Agree it’s longer.

I'm going with 15 minutes for solid cases. Assuming some quickly don't make the mark and are thrown out much faster.

Depends on the file. Some take a bit longer. Others have a sticky note that says "large donor family" or "coach's support".

I seem to recall this was in Who Gets In and Why. I need to look it up but am pretty sure it’s well under 10 minutes. And the process is more complex than a single AO reading. There are outside readers who do some prep work so the internal AOs can do a more streamlined review. And then they read in teams according to rubrics/matrices that are scored. It’s actually worth understanding how it works before your kid applies because you can help put together a more thoughtful application and suggest schools that are a better fit.

This cites an article that says at Duke first reading is " 15 minutes, sometimes less"
