| We live in Northeast DC and are looking for “safety” high schools to apply to. Given the commute, we’re not interested in places in Bethesda/rockville area. We also are only interested in secular schools. It seems it’s super limited to Barrie and sandy springs. Are there any others we can consider? |

Burke
Templeton Nothing is really safe IMO. Are you at a public now? |
| Honestly same for us. There's not much for girls in NE even if you're Catholic. |
| Archbishop Carroll in NE DC is coed, if there are others who would be open to Catholic schools. However, if your kid is white or Asian, they would be either the only or one of one or two kids in the school of that race. |
| ITDS school of last resort is Elizabeth Seton. Honestly if you want secular it's slim pickings. I would suggest you lottery for publics. |
| Sandy Spring is secular? |
| The thing is private school admissions are all competitive. For NEDC Burke is relatively close and less competitive than some schools close to it and compared to it. But people seem to be mostly happy there, at least according to what you read in this forum. |
| Field runs shuttles from various metro stations. |
Very competitive for admissions. Definitely worth applying to, but maybe it’s easier to get into Burke. |

Glenelg in Ellicott City.
Indian Creek near Annapolis. Severn near Annapolis. You might need to have a more open mind to public schools. |
|
Op you should look as to what schools will be metro friendly for you. Map it out so you don’t have to be a shuttle.
That said, the list of close-in, secular schools in general isn’t huge. Burke Field Sidwell Maret GDS Landon Holton Potomac Madeira Bullis Waldorf Smaller, more alternative schools like: Templeton Fusion |

You probably should have thought of this when you bought in Northeast.
One of your bedrock principles (diversity of neighbors! Secular! The cred of a DC address!) will necessarily give way before this is over. |
Quaker, but pretty darn close to secular. |
| Would these be "safety" schools in case not admitted to preferred application DCPS schools, or are you only applying to private schools? |
(Just like Sidwell) |
