Self Reporting AP Scores vs Official College Board Reports

Anonymous
For colleges that require you to send an official college board report for SAT scores, is it typical that they require the same for AP test scores? Or is self-reporting AP test scores usually fine for an admission application, even if the college requires official score reports for the SAT?

there is not one general rule, it will depend on the college

my kids were expected to send college board reports to all of the places where they applied, due to the fact those AP grades were the main focus of the entry requirements (UK)

DC only had two schools that required official SAT and neither required official AP scores at time of application

AP scores are not admission tests, therefore they should not be required to be sent for admission purposes. You can self report to bolster your application if you wish. Once you enroll, that is when you send the AP scores for possible credit.

OP, I have been wondering about this too because most places do not specify about AP scores, only SAT/ACT. The couple places my kid wrote to answered that self-reporting APs was fine even when official reporting of standardized test was required. I assume that that is the rule if it isn't spelled out clearly in their policy. It's a bit stressful, though, and we decided to officially report just in case.

DD sent in all official score reports to her ED school.

Not sure it will matter, but figured that anything helps when applying to a school with such a low acceptance rate.
