Both named beneficiary and issuer of CD are both deceased. How do I locate?

How do I locate for the surviving family of the named beneficiary? The surviving family of the issuer are not being very helpful.

You'll need to find out who the next of kin of the named beneficiary is and then give the money to them. If you are the executor, you can pay yourself back for the time you spend on it. You may need to hire a detective.

Detective instead of estate attorney?

Do you know where the deceased beneficiary lived? And their birth year?

You could try Ancestry.com. Even though living people usually hide their records, you might be able to triangulate a next of kin name through that. Ancestry record plus obituary.

Credit records associate people with their next of kin. Even deceased people. For example through old student loan information.

If the CD offering institution has a brokerage or trust department maybe see if they have an heir tracing service.
