Is it okay to ask the club what position they are looking at for my DD once they send out the offer/and before we accept?

Absolutely. You can also ask if it is a starter position or if there is somebody ahead of her.

No coach will guarantee you if you will be a starter or not. They will tell you that everyone will have equal practice time to train and compete to play at tournaments.

This depends on the level. Not necessarily at U14. There are starters and they will tell you. If they are honest is different but ask hard questions. You are spending a lot of money and a lot of your daughter’s time. It’s good to see who at least will have a conversation with you.

PP here. Of course, there will be exceptions. If a coach has seen a player played against their team and were impressed. And that player happens to be at tryouts. The coach would possibly entice that player with an off to be a starter.

Thanks for the advice, it's very much appreciated.

Ask about the position. When DD tried out last year, some clubs indicated the position in their offer, some did not. We know of one club where the kids were given offers but the positions were decided later. DSs became outside and right side hitters. One DS in particular did not want to play front row, but had to learn the position.

You can expect changes, especially in newer teams. Maybe the coaches brought you in as a DS, but their middle(s) rejected their offers and now they have to improvise. Now you are the tallest player on the team and you will play middle. This happens all the time in clubs with high turnover because their plans during the tryouts may not match the post-tryout reality.
