Tennis Lessons for kid

Anonymous
Hi,
I'm in Moco - Bethesda/Rockville and wondering what are good options for a few tennis lessons for my kid - nothing too serious. I see there is a tennis center managed by the county..is that a good option? Thanks.

The Montgomery TennisPlex and JTCC are both safe options.

Feel free to try anything closer though as long as the price seems normal. The specific coach and other kids in the class can make a big difference to your kid’s experience.

One business that I have seen suspiciously overpriced is Tennis Central. Avoid them.

The county programs are a great low cost, laid-back option for introducing kids to tennis and learning the basics. My 9yo started with county classes when she was 6 and now takes lessons at JTCC. TennisPlex might be closer for you though, depending on where you are

I love JTCC but it might be a bit of a hike for you. I think sometimes people are put off because they do train very serious tennis players who compete on the Junior Circuit and even a few who are on the ATP/WTA tours. But our experience is only with the non-champion classes and they've been terrific.

But due to distance yes I'd start with the county programs to see if the interest is there and then maybe explore JTCC if he gets into it. I wouldn't want to drive all the way to College Park for a kid who is meh on tennis.
