I don't understand the premise of your question. "Nerds" -- people who are more into academics than partying and/or have deep niche interests -- don't need to be fixed or turned into anything other than what they are.

I'm a nerd, but have always been sociable. Just smart and academic. Do you mean folks with difficulty with social interaction? Because that doesn't define nerds.

I feel like any large state school is good for this. The bigger the school, the more opportunities to find your people.
