Will quarter 1 and quarter 2 be weighted 50/50 even if the total number of points is a bit different in the quarters?
In other words, if a kid has an 89.4% in Quarter 1, does that register as an 89 and they need a 91 in quarter 2 to hit the 90% threshold for a semester A? Or, do they just keep adding points past Oct 31 so if the Quarter 2 point accumulation is a bit higher or a bit lower than the Quarter 1, then it will count a bit more or a bit less in the final calculation? |
| It is supposed to be the numerical average of the two end-of-quarter percentages. They have not stated how many decimal places they will go out. Also, there are numerous examples of MCPS changing things up at the last minute. |
| If it is like GPAs, they go to 2 decimal places. |
| As a HS teacher the only thing i am concerned with and have not recieved guidance on is how we handle the kids who mathematically cannot pass. There are apparently as many as 500 kids in our school in that situation. How do you manage and control that many lids who have no real reason to follow the program for 9 weeks? |
Eek! As a non-teacher, I am surprised they didn't figure this out ahead of time. Some sort of plan for in-semester grade recovery would be a good idea. |
| I am curious as to how much of an increase the county plans for Summer School programs this year knowing that the amount of kids requiring Summer School is probably going to triple with the new grading policy. Do they increase teacher allocations or do they just jam 45 kids into Honors Geometry? Do they do it all online? Do they add more Summer School locations because I am not 100% but I believe Gaithersburg and maybe one other school hosts Summer School for the whole county. |

I see more students wandering the hallways or just not coming to school. Why bother going to class if you cannot pass?
The kids know they can just get on the online credit makeup system to graduate. Just Google answers, retake the quizzes endlessly until they pass. Teachers hate it. |
This. Very easy to pass a class using Edmentum online learning |
Do you mean that some kids have so few points from q1, there is no way they can pass the semester? |
Like, pass with a D? Or with a C? |

Yes there will be kids failing, but that’s because they deserve to fail. This is a positive.
However, I agree with the teacher as to how this will motivate kids who have already failed? Maybe they need to switch to a remedial class? |
| Yeah. It's not surprising they don't have a solution in Year 1. But maybe this is a good thing in terms of early identification and in the future there can be a remedial retake option that starts mid semester? |
Yes they have below a 20% meaning they would need over 100% in MP2 to earn a 60% average and pass |
| Pretty sure schools have limited subscriptions to online credit recovery programs. Like I said, my school has about 500 who definitely failed and probably another 500 who will end up failing. There is no way all these kids can take credit recovery |
