Help me dress my SN tween for a wedding

Anonymous
My ASD 13 yo will attend a wedding and needs a semi formal outfit.

They are femme/nonbinary but recently more into dresses and feminine styles. They don’t want to be too exposed (sleeves and modest necklines are preferred.)

They wear a size 14/16 and are 5 feet tall. They have sensory issues with many fabrics and prefer things that are soft and cottony. They like to wear things that are a little edgy (doc martens, overalls, etc.)

Happy to get things hemmed if necessary since they’re so short. We don’t have a lot of $$ to spend. Wedding is in December. They will not go to the store to try things on as that’s too anxiety producing. Looking to order things that could be returned.

I was looking at ModCloth at some of the dresses that seem inspired by Wednesday Addam’s dark academia aesthetic but I think they’d like to be a bit dressier than that. Ideas?

I was just at my local Walmart today and they had some decent 'holiday' dress up stuff. Your dc could fit size small I think. I saw a few dresses that might fit their specs. Also, you could easily order online or even you go buy a few for them to try at home-easy to return there.

I've had good luck at Macy's because they stock bigger/teen sizes in the kids clothes.

PP here-I put 'holiday' in quotes because I live in a warm climate, I guess for DC it would just be winter clothing LOL

Sorry I wasn’t clear. OP here. My tween is not in kids clothing. They are an XL in women’s clothing. They are overweight due to meds which is part of the challenge. I need an outfit for a person who is 5 feet tall and size 16 in women’s clothes.

See what you can find at Macy's either by filtering for short sleeves and knee length in size 16 women's (that way the sleeves and hem should work ok where ever they hit) or look for petite 16 or petite XL sizes. Petite really just means short legs and arms (I'm a 12 petite, otherwise sleeves and pants are too long).

I think the key is figuring out how uncomfortable she's comfortable being in terms of tightness and fabric. She can wear Docs with any dress. Have you looked at Torrid? They tend to skew a bit younger (than adult) so as long as you get something modest it might appeal to her.

I'm bored at work - here are the options for size 16 wedding dresses at Old Navy that have sleeves: https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/women/dresses-and-jumpsuits?cid=15292&nav=meganav%3AWomen%3AShop%20Women%27s%20Categories%3ADresses%20%26%20Jumpsuits#department=136&size=1|56|1|706&occasion=2525&sleeveLength=1929,1928

My ASD daughter is picky about fabrics and overweight. She wore this to an afternoon wedding with leggings and boots, it was very soft and comfortable, but cute.

This is excellent! OP here. The nightfall babydoll mini dress may be perfect!

Thanks so much!!

Look at the pictures in the reviews. I would not feel great about my 13 year old kid wearing something that was both low cut and with a large see through panel to a wedding. My kid would not go for lace or ruching either from a sensory standpoint. The green one looked possible. I would get a bunch a see what works in person.
