| Just like the current CES and middle school magnets? It will be disaster... |
|
Probably. The person running the “analysis”
Runs the lotteries. |
| Getting a decent education amongst the corruption in this country has as good of odds as winning the lottery! |
|
Lottery?
It will be disater then. There shouldn't be any lottery. Everything should be criterion based. |
|
MCPS was explicit during the info zoom this week on the regional model. But the terminology they used is confusing to the layman because MCPS is using existing terminology "criteria-based," but changing the meaning of that terminology.
In the new regional model, "criteria-based" = lottery. The lottery pool will be determined based on (minimum) criteria. This is a change. In the new regional model, "interest-based" = plain lottery. Student only has to check off interest in a program to get their name added to the lottery pool. This is not changing. "Criteria-based" at the HS level will change from the current application system to lottery. There is a distinct possibility that a student application will no longer exist, starting with next year's 8th graders (this year's 7th graders). For anyone who knows how this change affected the MS magnets and ES magnets, you can anticipate what will happen to the HS magnets. |
| Please fight to stop this regional program model. Strengthen the home schools. This model just becomes a form of school choice, which increases segregation. |
It will become much easier for students to enter the lottery and hop on the Purple Line to attend B-CC for example. Segregation could potentially become much more pronounced, in terms of ethnicity and academics, and potentially even extracurriculars / athletics. |
Good point. The wealthiest families live on the Purple Line. |
