Government friends and neighbors - how are you coping financially?

Anonymous
I have a lot of friends and neighbors who work for the gov and and are now missing paychecks.

How are you all doing? What financial strategies are you using?

I can think of a few that might possibly be useful.
-Mortgage loan forbearance
-Transferring credit card balance to a new 0% teaser rate card
-Killing all unnecessary subscriptions (e.g., netflix, news, etc)
-Cooking cheap, but nutritious food like rice, beans, chicken, eggs, etc. Don't forget the hot sauce!
-What about offering tutoring services?

Hang in there. We appreciate you!

+1 And eliminating all unnecessary, which we were in the process of doing anyway. Switched from Verizon to Mint, now looking at cheaper home internet plans and canceling most streaming services. No restaurants, obviously.

This is a threat every year and one we have always planned for. it doesn’t impact us, we will replenish this fund when the shift down ends.

DH has been taking care of odd jobs around the house, getting appts in, and watching horror movies.

We’re not financially stressed yet but we’re always looking for ways to save.

I’m a cautious spender by nature, so I have lots of money in savings. I’m not making any major changes, but I am waiting to book any travel until I have a better picture of what’s happening.
