| I have thining hair just as my mom did. I have tried to fight with topical treatments, etc and nothing works. My doctor prescribed spironolactone. Has anyone had experience with this? |
|
I am trying it. I am about one month into it and seeing a difference, however I also got a ferritin infusion around the same time, so I don't know which is having an impact. I am seeing less hairloss now, but I don't think any new growth yet. I think it can take six months though.
I would be interested in other people's experience too. |

I use both Spiro and Minoxidil... Zero issues. They work. |
| Yes, it used to work for me. Now it does not. |
| Pay attention to your sleep if you take spiro. For me, it caused terrible insomnia. My doctor said that isn’t atypical side effect, but I found about 100 threads on Reddit from people who also experienced insomnia while using spiro. Regular oral minox works well for me for hair loss. |
| I went on 50 mg for acne. It did help with some thinning hair around my hairline, but I had to go off after 6 months due to side effects (leg cramps and menstrual irregularities). My hair thinning has returned for that area about 4 months later. |
My 17yo has very thick hair, so much so that I finally let her get laser removal on her legs. She has been taking Spiro for acne; I didn’t realize a side effect was hair growth. |
No, it's not. The side effect is stopping hair loss. There is a difference. Spiro is an anti-androgen. It blocks DHT - meaning that if you have lost hair at your temples and crown due to hormonal hair loss (female pattern balding), it will stop that and your hair will grow back, but it won't grow new hair for your 17 year old if she's not losing it. |
| I’ve been on it for 8 months and the hair loss has stopped. I haven’t noticed any side effects. |
|
It works great for some. For me, it gave me horrific puking and diarrhea.
|
| I got a prescription from Musely. It’s a hair pill with spiro and minoxidil. It’s worked. It takes some time though. |
Spiro is actually used to help women with PCOS reduce hair/fight acne, so don't stop it on that account. I took it for many years to try to lessen hair growth |
| Spironolactone is a DHT blocker and will prevent hair from falling. It is generally used in conjunction with minoxidil which actually promotes hair regrowth. |
The topical minoxidil or pill? Did you see a big difference? |
Pill Minoxidil. Yes. My hair line literally almost touches the top of my brows. |
