Optional Recommender Advice for EA Apps

Anonymous
DD’s employer over the summer volunteered to write her a recommendation. The problem is that the recommender has been MIA for a while now and is not responding to reminder emails. If the recommender doesn’t write the recommendation by the EA deadline, then what does DD do with already submitted apps, which listed the recommender?

That’s so not cool. Maybe ask the HS college counselor what to do?

Have DD pick up the phone and call them. Also, have DD draft a recommendation letter from the former employer and send it after the reminder phone call (IF the phone call goes well). If they get VM, send a follow-up email with the drafted recommendation letter attached.

Deadline is fast approaching

I have read that recommendations can come in very shortly after the EA deadline. Perhaps check in with the school's admissions officer?

Again, I'd strongly urge DD to call rather than email.

If the recommendation from employer is not a required one, move on. If a letter is required, try to get someone else to write it. Kid's school counselor could/should be able to remove the former employer's name from list of recommenders.

get academic recommendations sorted out first

Piggybacking to ask: for a letter from someone outside of the high school (in our case from a summer internship), how do you get it to the college? School counselor uploads outside letter to naviance/scoir? Outside person has to make a common app account? Thanks

Nevertheless have DD pick up thephone and inquire. Sounds like they are punting. This isn’t going to get resolved in time if she doesn’t call.
