DC Public and Public Charter Schools
| I plan on submitting out-of-boundary apps, but I'm hearing there's a max of 3 that I can submit. is this true? I hope not. What's the alternative if you don't get in any of the 3? Are you stuck w/the school in your zoning? God forbid. |
| You can only do 3 out of boundary applications. Best bet is to have one be a back-up. For example, for us this year for preK we applied to Thomson which has 10 out of boundary preK spots and only had 17 applicants. The better schools have more like 100-200 applicants for far fewer spots. You can look on the DCPS website to see how many spots they estimate will be available in each school at each grade. And if you look at this year's lottery results you can see how many kids applied for those spots. Other options are the Charter schools--you can apply to as many of those as you want. |

yes there is a limit of 3. I am assuming you are applying next year, since this years application process is closed.

Also check out Hyde in Georgetown. It has a magnet program -- I think for certain grades -- and you apply rather than go through out-of-boundaries. So maybe you could apply there and then still do your 3 o.o.b. apps. But I don't know the details. (My kid was in-boundary there.) Here's the link about the program but it's best to call the school and find out.
