| I have a feeling I need to just go to a stylist, but after working from home for most of a decade, my fashion brain is mush. I have an upcoming family interview for a private school. I assume an outfit on the side of business casual is called for, but am at a loss. My style is very much on the casual side of Ralph Lauren, think good jeans/button down with a collar/jacket/loafers. The outfit of this model is generally my go to (hopefully the link works) https://www.nordstrom.com/s/lauren-ralph-lauren-longline-wool-blend-coat/8513124?origin=category-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FSale%2FFall%20Savings%20Event%2FWomen&color=201. Unfortunately, I assume jeans are off the table for this type of an event. Help a hopeless mom out. I'm rather tall, relatively trim, larger bust. Prefer navy/browns over black. What would you wear? Budget not an issue per se, but I'm not going to spend thousands of dollars on an outfit I will only reasonably wear once. |
| Doesn’t matter beyond clean, neat, no jeans, nothing too low cut or too short. Do not overthink. |

Yeah, I wouldn't overthink this. No jeans, no cleavage, no shirts with words on them.
My go to outfit when I don't know what wear is a sweater dress, opaque tights, and boots. |
| Just swap out your jeans for a pair of navy or black pants. |
| I think dark jeans can be okay in this situation. We've been doing them and I have been wearing black slacks and a sweater. Remember schools are fairly casual environments so you shouldn't expect the admission director to be dressed in business attire. I would just focus on looking put together. |

agree with sticking with your usual and just swapping out black/brown/navy pants for the jeans.
Or a dress, boots, and still wear the jacket. Maybe a shirtdress? Another option is dress pants, button down, open cardigan (maybe longer, or it could hit at your waist/hip). I don't think you want to go to far from your normal look and you want to be comfortable. |
Thanks, like I said, my fashion brain is mush at this point! |

This was me last week. I pretty much only wear jeans and black shirts. I used to enjoy wearing dresses but the ones I have don't fit as well right now. So I ordered an inexpensive pair of black pants from Amazon then looked online for a nice top to match, figuring the top would be the focal point. I ended up ordering a couple from Ann Taylor and one worked out nicely. When trying the outfit on a few days in advance I realized the shoes I wanted to wear were old and falling apart so I ordered a similar pair.
I would like to get a new cold weather dress but it's been challenging to find one for a short, curvy woman with the perimenopausal belly. Sigh. |
