My favorite is Jane Austen because I've read all of her novels multiple times and love them all.
But there are lots of others who deserve to be read! Deerbrook by Harriet Martineau all of Elizabeth Gaskell's novels - North and South is my favorite Yes, the Bronte sisters Middlemarch by George Eliot (this is a favorite of mine, but I admit to not really liking her other novels) Louisa May Alcott - she wrote more than Little Women! Lady Audley's Secret by Mary Elizabeth Braddon Anne by Constance Fenimore Woolson (this blew me away - by an American author - she has a statue on Mackinaw Island in Michigan) Scandinavian author Selma Lagerlof - I loved The Saga of Gosta Berling |
