Split MS/HS articulation may result in new ES assignments soon- be aware when assessing boundary proposals

Just flagging for folks that MCPS is now officially saying that they want to do a countywide elementary school boundary study and change ES boundaries in the next couple years "to reduce split articulation and align to new high school patterns."

In other words, if your ES has split articulation under the current MS/HS boundary options, they will look to make ES assignment changes in the ES boundary study to have kids from the same ES stay together. So if you are in the split part further from your current ES, there is a high chance you'll be getting sent to a different ES in 2 or 3 years. (You should be able to guess the most likely possibilities by using the map tool and seeing what elementary schools near you are physically within the middle school boundaries for each option and are sending most or all of their kids to the same MS as yours.)

Just wanted to flag as you think about filling out the survey and advocating for current boundary options or amendments to them. There may be people who don't care too much about split articulation but would care a lot about their ES changing. And please spread the word! Especially since a disproportionate percentage of this split articulation is in the DCC and DCC families may not be as plugged into the implications of this stuff as some of the other areas...

I think this might mean that some of the same kids will be asked to change elementary schools due to the boundary study and will then a few years later be asked to move around during middle school due to SSIMS closure/redistricting and Sligo renovations?
