Why are dealers so awful?

Anonymous
I had an appt at 9.30. I arrive right on time and the service person tells me they likely don’t have the right tech available but they’ll check. It’s now been 1 hour and 15 min with no communication. Why not call me and cancel the appointment and not make me waste 45 min driving here and now all this time sitting here? Yes I’m going to go ask what’s going on by why is basic customer service seem impossible for car dealerships?

Ask to speak to the head service manager. If s/he isn't available, ask to speak with the general manager of the dealership. You should push for a discount for wasting your time.

They are probably in the back slamming beers and scrolling vids of tiktok women.

Unless it is under warranty, why use a dealership mechanic? Ask for a loaner and leave it with them?

This. Dealer is for the first couple oil changes that are free and warranty stuff. Everything else goes to my local mechanic, who I trust and have been dealing with for 15+ years.

Very valuable to have! If one can find a good one who is actually honest and competively priced, best to keep them and give them business.

I will only buy a car from Pohanka now- they are the most professional and I had the only enjoyable car buying experience of my life there.

There's a guy on YouTube who streams his negotiations with car dealers. He charges $1000 to handle the process for buyers, then sources cars that match their desires from anywhere in the country. It seems he starts far off and then works closer to the buyer, to see if the local dealers can match deals he finds in the middle of nowhere.

The other day, he was shopping for someone in the DMV. He ended up calling some of our truly amazing local dealerships and proceeded to get connected with the same jerk who convinced me not to buy my last BMW from a local dealer and instead fly up to Sudbury, MA and buy it there. The frustration on his face was evident; the salesman didn't want to move a car, he just wanted to be an ass.

That experience turned me off completely from the brand and I have ended up buying my last two cars from Tesla simply because the process ensured I'd never have to talk to a car salesman again.

The title was misleading buf this is not what OP is talking about.
Ops issue is service work at a dealer.

OP don’t go to a dealer for services. You are not their priority.

My guy isn’t cheap, but no good mechanic is. What sets my mechanic apart is I trust him. He isn’t always trying upsell me something or coming up with BS stuff to price gouge me.
