PK in HCPS?

Anonymous
We are considering a move from DC to Howard County for a Baltimore-based job. We have 3 kids in DCPS, the youngest will be in PK4 next school year. We have loved the DC free PK option and are finding mixed info about PK expansion in Maryland. Is PK4 available at HCPS elementary schools, and is it free? Lottery? Thanks for any advice!

It is free if you are under a certain income limit, check hcpss website.

Also free for kids who qualify because of a disability

Thank you! The website is a bit confusing about eligibility and I didn’t see anything specifically about qualifying disabilities. My question is for a 4 year old next school year who has an IEP now for PreK3 but would not qualify by income alone.

That's a maybe. I would ask the school district to confirm.

Consider looking into the Learning to Peer program as an option too
