Amazon Return at Staples Gone Wrong?

Anonymous
I dropped off a return at Staples on Wednesday. They scanned my QR code in the Amazon app and put the box behind the register. They didn't print a receipt for me, but showed me their phone and let me take a picture. In the Amazon app it is still not registering as being dropped off. Has anyone else experienced this? Usually when I drop off a return at UPS it registers in the Amazon app as being dropped off right away. I would have done UPS this time, but it wanted to charge me instead of being free like it usually is. This was a $100 item (an unopened unused Keurig that I got myself and then my husband surprised me with the same one for my birthday) so I'm not willing to just write this off as a loss.

I had this happen once with something that had 2 boxes and they didn’t account for the second box. It was really annoying, but in the end, I couldn’t prove that I had dropped off both boxes because it only scanned as one item. If you have a picture that shows it as dropped off, I’d go back to the Staples and ask what happened.

What did you take a picture of, exactly? If it's proof that Staples collected your Amazon item, and the item carries an identifier, you can perhaps use the chat function on Amazon, show them the photo, and ask what's happening, before returning in person to the store.

^ I always return my stuff at Whole Foods, because it's free, I use the super-easy Amazon return machine without needing to ask anybody, and I also regularly shop at WF.

Also keep it and actually get in touch with Amazon to preempt them charging back the refund. I had a couple of such instances dropping off at WholeFoods and fortunately there they triggered email receipts.

I got a return receipt that has a return code on it. Thanks, I'll try this.

This is the issue - there isn't a refund issued for them to charge back! It doesn't even show that I've dropped off the item

Update: So wild - Amazon had no record that I had even initiated a return! I was able to send them a photo of the Staples receipt and a screenshot of the email where they provided the return QR code. They said they would give me a refund as an “exception”. Total BS that it’s an “exception” but at least I’m getting my refund.

Yes, I had this happen recently. Not Amazon, but equally strange return attempt. QR code wouldn't work once I was at UPS, company promised to email return slip but did not. I was irate after a big waste of time over this, so I called my credit company. The person on the other end agreed it was strange and reimbursed all costs. I still have the dang package ready to be returned when I get some sort of return information/slip from the retailer. Not holding my breath.

I don’t know that it’s BS. You are supposed to get a receipt and it should show as returned while you were there.

We had an issue once at Amazon Store and had to involve a manager when the clerk wouldn’t provide the receipt.

whatever went wrong with Amazon is probably what tripped up the guy at staples and is why you didn’t get a receipt.

The issue is with Staples' return process with Amazon. Don't go to Staples for your returns anymore. I always return at Whole Foods and have never had a problem, despite doing hundreds of returns over the years.

Amazon is getting worse about this. I stopped returning at Kohls because I had a return issue. Now I only go to UPS stores and NEVER leave without a receipt that goes strait into my glove box until I’m sure all is well.

You missed the part where I said I had a receipt from Staples. He didn’t print it for me, but I took a photo of it.

Amazon wasn’t showing that I had even initiated a return on their end. They wanted me to show that I had a QR code from them that I used to return the item (which I did). This was an issue with Amazon.
