Progesterone suppositories to delay period

Anonymous
I need to delay my period by two days, so I can be in town to start my monitoring for the IVF. The only way that I know of how to do it is to use progesterone suppositories. Should I start using them right after the ovulation or just a week before my period is due? And should I use them twice a day or just a once a day should do the trick?

When I use them, I use 200mg twice a day from ovulation until about 10-11 DPO(I typically have a 13 day lutal phase). That usually delays my period by 2-3 days.

HTH!!!

I take 200 MG of prometrium suppositories, just once a day. It delays my period by 3-4 days. So if I stop taking it on a Friday, I would get my period by Tuesday or Wednesday. I do them right after ovulation, that's your best bet.

Thank you, ladies, for your responses. Will follow your advice.

Be careful using suppositories to manipulate your cycle start. I bleed straight through them. I also know that some people who have used them to delay their period find that the follicles start developing anyway - even though their period has not started. So, you may have an ugly surprise when you go in for your first monitoring appt.

The only way to effectively delay your cycle is using bcps, since they manage both estrogen and progesterone levels. If you want to delay your cycle start, then talk to your RE about the best way to do it.

PP you're right I tried to manipulate my day one and my E2 level was high on my day 2 monitoring, our ovaries have a timeline of their own and it may not coincide with the shedding of the uterine lining. One cycle I thought I was day 7 based on my first day of bleeding but it turns out that I was close to ovulation, even though I technically still has my period. I'm not a fan of BCP's but they are the only way to truly manipulate one's cycle.

OP here. I just need to push my period one/two days forward. Even if my follicles develop according to the their own time frame it is not a big deal because I will be in town then. I don't want to take BCP because I don't want to waste a month.

The problem you may experience is that the follicular development is more like day 4 of your cycle and not day 2. If your estrogen level has started to rise and is over 70, then your cycle might get cancelled. Your period has nothing to do with the follicular development, so just be prepared in case they tell you that you can't start your cycle.
