Which top schools offer sibling preference?

Anonymous
Please put these schools in order based on how strongly they give preference to siblings (from highest amount of preference to least):

Sidwell
Maret
GDS
St Albans / NCS

And as a follow up set of questions:
Does St Albans give any preference to an applicant whose younger sibling attends Beauvoir (but the applicant himself did not attend Beauvoir)?
Does NCS give any sibling preference to an applicant whose older brother attends St Albans?

And thanks for anything you can share about your experience with sibling preference at any of these schools!

Have you spoken to any of these schools? They will tell you all this information.

My understanding is that NCS and STA do not give sibling preference for opposite gender siblings.

As far as parsing the relative strength of sibling preference, I doubt there’s all that much variation, but ask the school.

There is no sibling preference across the Close. NCS does not give preference if a brother is at STA and vice versa. And STA does not give preference if a sibling is at BVR.

Outside of those, I can only speak to Maret which has a strong sibling preference. When you tour, ask the admissions team for confirmation.

This is a flat out lie. It’s definitely taken into consideration on the close. Academics will weigh more heavily, but it’s for sure noted.

GDS has a strong sibling preference. Esp if you are full pay.

Well, we just toured and asked. Feel free to confirm with admissions as well. Since there are opposing stances being given, OP should disregard what is stated on this anonymous forum and rely only on what is stated by the admissions teams at the schools.

I also think that sibling preference within the same school (say, two sisters at NCS) is taken into consideration, but not between two different schools. OP should confirm for themselves.

It's definitely a soft hook across the Close. Not as strong as sibling preference is at other schools which will admit a lesser qualified sibling. but if a candidate is strong, sibling preference across the Close can push them in.

They all do to a certain extent. Beyond that specifically, it it's situational, like almost everything in life.

Think about it logically - if you have a family that's full pay going with 1 kid in and good standing - why would you not want the whole family? I mean you've heard of legacy admits right? Come on, which school doesn't prioritize legacy to a certain extent? Of course it matters. But if kid 2 is obviously weak and is nothing like kid 1 and the school has 50 other strong kids, oh by the way some also have siblings in already, of course you're not prioritized.

Your question is nonsense. Every situation/family is different. it prob also counts if you are in tight with the admin/community. EVERYTHING matters.
