Would you apply for this promotion?

I am considering applying for a promotion. Right now I do the work this position calls for sometimes (cover for others as needed, up to a few months at a time), but if I were to promote I would do the work all the time.

I would have more work (downside) - it would still fit in my day without longer hours, but I’d have to be very disciplined. Right now it’s easy for me to get my work done. But I’d also have more agency and be responsible for more decisions on the team, which I have found (surprisingly) actually reduces my stress.

I’m unlikely to get the position if I apply (very competitive) but I don’t want to apply at all if I don’t want it. There’s an opportunity to apply annually. The salary difference, while nice, is not meaningful to me and the title is basically the same as well - so it’s just a question if the trade offs I presented.

Op, that’s! That’s a good way to look at it. I think both provide some opportunities, but in different directions, and I’ll give some thought to that.
