Easier Admission Comp to St. Albans

What other schools should we consider if St. Albans is our son's and our family's top preference? He is coming from a DC private and doesn't want to apply out early but would consider it for 6th/7th. St. Andrew's is far away and co-ed, Landon doesn't have the religious component. What have other families landed on for their son's who would have done well at STA but aren't able to get in because of sibling quotas or other variables?

If you're looking for all boys and religious, then your only other nearby options are Prep and Gonzaga.

Saint Anselms Abbey School

Georgetown Prep is the most similar. Very fancy, all-boys, and religious, but in a way most in the DMV find palatable.

You could visit The Heights.

Put your kid in Public school.
If they are not academic enough fot St Albans by now you have failed to educate them properly.

13:30 again, I don’t think that any of the all-boys independent schools are an easy admit. They all have competitive admissions.

Wouldn't St Andrews be a closer match?

Prep is Catholic, religiously and culturally, and that's a different kind of "religious" school.

St Andrew’s isn’t up there academically

Yup! The Catholic high schools recommended are not a slam dunk for a non-Catholic. The preference is for legacies, Catholics, especially from feeder schools, and athletes. While the academic requirements for admission might not be as high as at St Albans, there are other barriers.

On average, neither are Prep, Gonzaga and The Heights. The schools are set up to serve an entire community and not a narrow slice of the most academically oriented/gifted.

Saint Anselm’s is the closest match from the academic angle. It’s probably more religious than St Albans but you could call it comparable. Where it’s definitely not comparable is on sports prowess and facilities

He has the academic chops for St. Albans. It's just a matter of how many boys are admitted from our school each year and the number of siblings in our particular class. STA just doesn't admit that many kids each year so I'm looking for other options or willing to reconsider applying out early.

Thank you. I actually hadn't considered this as an option and will look into it.

I guess he could consider Mater Dei for middle school and then try for Prep.

OP here - Does SSSAS compare at all? Not an ideal commute, but it might be a better option than St. Andrew's.
