| Loyola University Maryland has been recommended for my DS who has a 3.2 GPA with an upward trend. He would need significant merit money. Can someone tell me what the school is like? Is the campus lively and busy? Are there sports to watch? Also, would a 3.2 GPA get any merit money? Thanks in advance for any information. |
| Jeffery Selingo praises Loyola MD in his new book Dream School as having a great ROI with great post graduation outcomes. |
| I live near the campus. Campus itself is beautiful. Fun restaurants nearby. Very safe. Easy to get downtown or to Towson. Kids seem v happy. |
| My son applied with a 3.1 gpa and got $25k. Beautiful campus, smaller classes. He is going to study abroad this spring. |
| All of the Loyola Universities offer a very solid education while immersed in a truly caring community. An A+ school for B+ students. |
Wow. With a 3.1? They must accept anybody! Not a dis, just sayin'. |
| It’s a great hidden gem of a school! Beautiful campus, lots of school spirit, and a supportive community in the Jesuit tradition. My daughter also thought the dorms were some of the best she’s seen so far on her college tours. They’re also known for being generous with merit. |
Why is the COA so high if they give so much merit to a 3.1? Just bring the COA down to $50K, and give smaller merit to students with a higher GPA/SAT. LM is on my DC's list, and they have a 3.7 (weighted 4.5) with a 1440 SAT. Would they get more merit? |
Yes, your student would likely get a very generous scholarship package from Loyola MD. I don’t fully understand why college pricing operates this way, it would be great to have better transparency and consistency across the board so prospective students know the financials upfront (seems to be an issue across the board and not just at this particular college). |
| Another Baltimorean here. Lots of alumni stay in the city and seem to do well in the local business and legal community. Loyola has D1 sports, soccer and lacrosse seem to be strengths. To my knowledge, no football. |

WSJ also ranks it very highly. 19th ranked overall.

Only a couple of schools have taken this approach. Bridgewater College in VA very publicly reduced tuition from $40,000 to $15,000 and did away with giving everyone merit aid. They claim it's been successful in increasing applications and enrollment. |
That company hired you? Wow, they'd hire anybody! Totally not a dis tho! |
With the impending demographic cliff and schools struggling with enrollment issues, this seems like a sound approach. |
You can choose to not be rude. |
