Why does Maret only hire 2 refs for its home soccer games? Can it not afford a 3rd ref? It's totally ridiculous (and also not in the best safety interest of the players) to not have 2 ARs (or no center ref) at games for varsity soccer. It's not due to ref shortage--every other DC private finds a way to hire the requisite 3 refs. Are they just being cheap?

LMAO. Just want to chime in as a high school soccer fan that this is an all time post. Just outstanding. Your team lose on a goal you think should have been called offsides? |
| Guess what? Many DC area private schools have only one ref for their home soccer games! |
| Omg it’s high school soccer. Who cares? |
Yes, just cheapos. Visit the school and you will notice by looking at the condition of the buildings. |
| Yup, it’s the school, not the league that handles ref assignments. In fact, the assistant development officer spent most of her day trying to get an additonal linesperson but just couldn’t get anyone to bite. |
| My son plays for a “big 3” JV team and there have only been 2 refs at every game excluding 1 away game when there was 1 ref. Do Varsity games usually have 3? My son also refs for his club and at U12 and up, there are always 3 refs (granted, they’re usually teens). |

OP, your ire should be directed at the league that hires and manages the refs, not the school.
Carry on. |

My understanding is refs are determined by the league. For girls, there can be different rules for the AA (higher) v single A division.
I am not sure what the rule is for boys. I am sure Maret could explain if you ask AD. |
| Right. It's the league, not the school. Smh |
| Nah- the home team organizes and pays for refs. Not the league. It’s Marets decision to save $. Super cheap. |
