Is there any way to know if there is any chance at all at being admitted as a transfer (HS 10th grade)? Do school usually have spots?
Also how important is it for both parents to attend things like the Open House? I have a family conflict (elder care issue) that day so would rather not go but I don’t want it to be a tick against her. |
| I don't think it's important for both parents to attend an open house. Your best bet re: openings for your transfer in grade is to call the school and ask. Bonus--you'll have a conversation with a human and learn a bit about the school/them you. |
| Unless your child is being recruited for something, 10th is going to be a hard admit |
This. It depends entirely on the school and even then it fluctuates from year to year based on whether other students leave. It’s always worth asking. My DC has had a few new students join their grade in both 10th and 11th, so it certainly does happen. |
| I volunteer as a parent at our school's HS admissions admitted families event (DMV private) and there are always 4-5 families there for rising 10th who've been accepted to our school and various others so it does happen. |
