CYO basketball

Does anyone here have a kid who has played CYO basketball? If so, how does it compare to a typical house league? Are the practices and games more or less frequent? How is the competition compared to house?

I think CYO is usually a little better than a rec or house league. Its definitely a rec league, but the teams/coaches/players care more and are a little more competitive than the rec leagues we’ve played in. Our local rec league has more limiting rules (lower hoops, less pressing) for the younger kids than CYO does as well.

Like many other things it depends on the school. Our school, one of the larger schools in NOVA, had three teams per gender per grade. My guess is most schools had two teams.
The Arlington diocese has, at least, three divisions per grade. The first division is more like a county travel team. The last division is similar to every other rec program. The middle division is a mixed bag.
All my DC played and loved CYO basketball. Only one continued to play in high school, but all three would say CYO basketball was one of their favorite things about K-8 school. Two kids played county and AAU teams. CYO was a lot of fun, but with the three or four divisions per grade, many teams can be successful.
