Virginia unemployment benefit: Do they provide unemployment back pay?

News: Trump Administration Threatens To Buck The Law, Not Pay Furloughed Federal Workers

Furloughed federal employee here, I would not apply for unemployment benefit, since there will be back pay (very likely).

If there is no back pay, can I apply for back pay of unemployment benefit?

I looked this morning- it can’t be retroactive so apply now if you think you’ll need it. I’m giving it another day or two then plan on applying.

But it would be annoying to return unemployment benefit to Virginia, after getting back pay. It may also make tax return complicated.
