Telehealth ADHD medication management

Anonymous
My daughter is away at college and is almost out of her ADHD medication. We haven't been able to find a local psychiatrist yet. Any recommendations on a telehealth service (in Virginia) that will refill a stimulant prescription? Thank you!

is she located in VA?
Try Headway for psychiatrists/MDs that take insurance. You have to filter for MD as it shows you NPs as well if you dont use the filter. psychology today does the same.

Talkiatry. Also takes insurance and has VA providers.

Where in Virginia?

I have heard good things about Talkiatry; however, if they don’t take your insurance there is no self pay option. (Or at least when I last checked)

Does her current psychiatrist do telehealth?
Does she have an internist?
Student health or referral from student health?

I currently live in central VA and getting a psychiatrist appointment is very challenging!
Good luck.

Student health center should have a doctor who would help you.

Headway docs are independent so they can often see you right away and you can pick who you want to see-you can choose an MD. They can RX controlled meds.

We love Talkiatry.
That said, for a refill she will need to do the entire intake, etc and officially transfer care. No doctor is going to just refill a controlled substance prescription.

Even if they wanted too the law wouldn't allow them to do it.

Telehealth can't refill controlled substance prescriptions.

Can her current prescriber in your home state send a prescription to your insurance company’s mail order pharmacy? I’ve had my mail order pharmacy ship my meds to a different address in another state when I’m traveling. I haven’t done it with a controlled substance, but it’s worth a phone call to your pharmacy to see if they would ship the meds to your dd.

A simple google search will make it clear that in fact they can under federal law.

We used Bloom Health Centers for anxiety meds management. We were happy with them. After the first appointment, follow-ups were really quick.
