Having my first colonoscopy next week. My doctor prescribed Plenvu and said to avoid berries and nuts a few days before, and then obviously no solid food the day before the procedure / day of.
Some friends recommended doing a brat style diet 3-5 days before but does that make a difference? How far in advance did you start changing your eating habits or did you just avoid the foods on the list and not pay attention to anything else? And dumb question - when they say clear broth, assume brown colored beef bone broth is ok? |

I just followed my doctor’s instructions, and yes, beef bone broth is fine.
I wound it alternative my eating habits beyond what my doctor instructed. The prep sucks, why make it suck more. Don’t overthink it. |
| I mixed the power with coconut waters instead of regualr water. Made it more palatable. |

My instructions were more restrictive than yours - basically low fiber foods three and two days before the procedure and then no solids the day before. I typically eat a ton of fruit (and some veggies) so that was the hardest part of the prep for me lol.
If I were you, I’d err on the side of lower fiber food, not just no berries or nuts, but that’s just me. Sucky as that prep was, the last thing you want is to have to do it again because you’re not cleaned out enough. A few weeks before my procedure there was a poster here on DCUM who didn’t get cleaned out and had to either redo it or come back in a year, that motivated me. Good luck, hope it goes well. |
| Just follow what your dr says. It's literally not a big deal. Goodness, I'd hate to see your reaction to a serious proble. |

Above all: follow your doctor’s instructions.
In advance of my colonoscopy on a Friday (noon), I ate the following. I’m excluding any medication. Monday: normal diet Tuesday and Wednesday: low fiber diet (eg, peeled potatoes and ground turkey) Thursday: liquid diet (veg broth and apple juice). My instruction was that the liquid should be clear enough that you could still read a newspaper through the liquid and a clear glass container. But coffee was allowed. Friday morning: nothing Friday afternoon: burrito |
| Google low residue diet. Follow that for 3 days before you start clear liquid diet. There will be less that needs to be cleaned out of you. It’s really not that bad. You’ll be fine. |
