Has anyone in the DMV had experience with The Mountain School - junior year semester program in Vershire Vermont?

My husband and his brother both did the program in the 90’s and loved it. Many teachers are still there from that long ago. Just be warned— my husband hasn’t eaten beef or pork since that time 🤣

DD did it during COVID - so great to be in a safe space where they were able to go without masks as they were largely sealed in. FWIW, I still mask in certain settings and I believe in the mandates. Was just great that she had a reprieve for part of junior year.

Is this the program where several schools in the area send their kids junior year high school to then get into an ivy?

I've had several students over the years do this program and also the semester at High Mountain Institute (Colorado), Chewonki (Maine), and The Island School (Bahamas). Every kid who has done one of these has grown as both a student and a human and comes back encouraging others to do it.

It seems like a great program and DC’s school sent out info about it, but DC did not want to miss a whole year with friends and planned classes at school.

It is a fantastic semester program that went through some growing pains with the new head but seems to have righted itself. Parent of 2 alums, very very different kids, both had a life changing experience. I know that sounds cringy, but it is true. So much personal growth. Academics are challenging in a great way.

I think this program, and the others mentioned above, are amazing and educate their students in a more impactful way than their home schools. The private I worked at discourage it due to unavailability of certain AP courses etc.

I thought mountain school was a year long, not one semester?

The Mountain School was a semester long program when my friends did it. They all went from boarding schools in New England. Rigorous academics, small supportive community on a working farm in Vermont. Beautiful, peaceful surroundings. They all LOVED the experience. Seems like it was bonding and life changing.

I went to Milton (graduated mid-00s), so several of my friends did Mountain School for junior year and they all had a fabulous experience. I also heard good things about Chewonki back in the day.
