Club field hockey cost per year

For parents of HS-aged club field hockey players, can you share an estimate of what you pay per year all-in (ie club fees, tournament travel, etc.)?

Asking for the sake of my own budgeting. Thanks in advance!

This is really club dependent. If you have a budget and need a club within your budget that’s something you should consider from the get-go. If you’re starting out as a U12 player it’s going to cost less than if you are a U16 player. Not only will training costs likely increase but the tournaments you go to will drastically increase your annual costs (hotels, flights, food).

Some clubs charge a flat free for the year that includes all training and all tournament fees. Your child may not go to all the tournaments, but you are still paying a fee towards those tournaments. Some clubs charge a training fee and then a per tournament fee and you only pay for the tournaments you attend. Local tournaments are cheap and may cost $75. Some of the larger tournaments however may cost $3-400 and you also then have to factor in your travel expenses.

A club that charges a flat fee, can cost less in the end than a club that charges for training and tournaments. It comes down to how many tournaments your child goes to. Some clubs give you the option to say which tournaments you’re willing to attend and others don’t - the expectation is you go to what you’re told and you don’t know what that will be when you’re signing up in the summer for the next year.

Some clubs are for-profit and some are not for profit.

We had one dd that was with a club for a few years that had low fees but charged for each tournament. We have since switched to another club and added younger dd as well. The older one is 16u and the price is essentially the same as the old club when you add in all the tournaments and coaching fees. It is a flat fee and while we don't go to every tournament, I understand why it is set up this way as the club's costs are sthe same regardless of how many go to a particular tournament. Our younger one is 12u and her fees are lower. If I remember, the fees are the same 14u and up and I think 10u were even lower, but they don't go to the big tournaments.
We did have to pay separately for uniforms but they were pretty cheap and we aren't required to replace them every year like at our last club.

PP- can you give an idea of the fees?

For our club it is roughly U12 $3000, U14 to U19 $4000. That is for everything from tournaments, coaches, and uniforms. Does not include travel, hotels, or food. Does include all the recruiting calls and help with college coaches. Did not include video highlights but those were pretty cheap. I have a U16 that started as a U12.

Let me count. ~$300 per month plus 2k traveling yearly. And private lesson weekly at $100 /per lesson. Thus around 8k.
