Email Mystery

Anonymous
I received an important email with documents attached. I thought I left the email in my inbox to review.

Later, I searched for the email by date of delivery and was not able to find it.

Finally I checked the trash bin. I found an item from the correct day and correct sender, however the email body was transformed from the correct email with documents into the body of an email from Linked In.

Very bizarre and concerning since these were confidential documents.

My DH also was sent a copy of the documents and his email is fine.

Any ideas what is going on? Was I hacked somehow?

Thanks in advance.

Are you checking email via desktop or mobile?

Thanks— using iPhone .

OP here— it’s similar to a chimera — one email with qualities of two separate emails. Strange but I guess these things happen. Would love to understand why !

Can you try using desktop? Does it display the same issue?

Hi- I just tried on my laptop and everything is displaying correctly on there— thank goodness! It’s still messed up on the phone, though.

Thank you very much for your help!

This is a bit off-topic but...with Gmail on desktop and Gmail in browser on a phone, I've learned you cannot send out a draft with attachments that was created on desktop from your phone. The e-mail goes out but the attachments get stripped off.

That sometimes happens to me too. For some reason my phone email app just doesn’t sync correctly right away. The desktop email tends to be the most current and correct.

I would go to "My DH also was sent a copy of the documents and his email is fine." and check the headers, gateways, etc. Do a dump of that entire email and look at the routing.

It's usually done by right clicking on the email and looking for view source or headers option.

I pulled this example off the internet. Do the same with your other email and compare.
