| Heading to a women’s happy hour next week at my boss’s home. I’d prefer not to bring wine as I don’t know wine and my boss is very into wine. Any suggestions for an easy, but nicer than cookies, snack or treat I can bring? |
| Dark chocolate goes well with red wine. |
| I was going to suggest dark chocolate and fancy nuts. |
|
everyone has packages of macarons now. Those look fancy, have a flavor for everyone and can go well with wine.
I prefer savory so would look for those firehook crackers and such. |
|
Are you supposed to bring something to share? If I were uncomfortable selecting wine, I might opt for a "consumable" hostess gift like good olive oil- something that doesn't require the hostess to plate and put out for the party.
Unless she asked people to bring food- then I think nuts or dark chocolates are a good idea bc they would travel well. |
Baked brie with fruit and crackers
|
| A box of petit fours? |
That seems like too much for a guest to bring. That's appropriate for the host to put out. |
| The dark chocolate for red suggestion works. I would cover white and rose as well - camembert/brie for white, strawberries/peaches for rose. |
How is going to Trader Joe’s and getting a block of Brie, some crackers and some grapes and putting them on a plate too much. |
It just is. It makes it seem like you're co-hosting. Just level down. |
DP PP said baked brie. Presumably you are not baking the brie in the host's kitchen. I would not bring previously baked brie. There are better alternatives. |
| When I am invited to a home party, I always ask, “What can I bring?” If the hostess says “Nothing”, I would bring chocolate or flowers. |
| I'd bring a plate of brownies on a disposable plastic plate. They can either put them out, or save them, and you don't have to worry about getting the plate back. Can include some grapes/strawberries on the plate for color if you want. |
This. And yes to flowers if you get a "Nothing". When I host my guests always ask. And don't say "Nothing", otherwise you'll get a dozen people all bringing dark chocolate (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but variety is always nice.) |
