Is it possible someone has been on Mounjaro for 5 months and not lost any weight?

A co-worker claims she has not lost any weight on it. She made a huge deal about starting it in the spring and her anxious she was about shots and side effects. She even took off the day after she started to give herself a full day to recover.

Is it possible to not lose weight on this drug?

Yes. She may not be on a strong enough dose.

I’ve been on it for 9 months and only lost 15 pounds.

Yes, there is a small percentage that do not lose weight on these drugs. She might have other positive effects from it though.

Yes. If they keep eating

I’ve been on it since June and only lost 5 lbs.

I just started the highest dose.

One thing my doctor said is even though my BMI is high, it might be the right weight for me.

My husband lost a ton of weight and he felt sick if he ate too much, so he lost a ton of weight.

I never ate too much, I was eating 1200 cal on a regular basis and working out multiple times a week.

I am hoping it helps with my triglycerides though, I won’t know till January.

Yes, of course. It's not 100% effective in 100% of people.

Yes, from the couple of people I know who have been on it for type II diabetes it has been very gradual and pretty subtle weight loss that adds up over time. Those i know on other glp 1’s have lost more weight and done so more rapidly. Speed isn’t always good.

Is she on it for diabetes or off-label just for weight loss? Perhaps that makes a difference.

Yes, someone in my family has been on this medication for over a year. I'm told they have lost some weight but I can't really tell. I do agree that slower can be better.

My dad is type 1.5 and he's on Mounjaro. He hasn't lost much weight. It was good though because he already was thin. He's taking it to help control his blood sugar. I think a lot of adults don't want to be losing more than 5-10lbs.

The weight loss injectables are higher doses.

I had to change my lifestyle to lose the weight. But the medication made it much more possible for me to change my lifestyle and be consistent about the changes. I still have to make the right choices or I will gain it back.

As many as 1 in 5 people won’t lose weight with GLP-1 drugs, experts say

"In clinical trials, most participants taking Wegovy or Mounjaro to treat obesity lost an average of 15% to 22% of their body weight — up to 50 pounds or more in many cases. But roughly 10% to 15% of patients in those trials were “nonresponders” who lost less than 5% of their body weight."

The meds don’t automatically make you lose weight. You have to put the work in.
I did and lost 35 lbs.

Once I got 5 lbs from my goal weight last December, I stalled. My discipline waned, meds didn’t have the same effects and I haven’t put the work in.

So yes it’s possible. Discipline is key and for many, they don’t get the extra boost from the meds.

Thank you. That makes sense. She has Type II diabetes.

But did it help her A1c and other numbers? I assume since it's Mounjaro, she is diabetic or pre-diabetic. In that case, she should be concerned about those numbers, not the number on the scale.

I've been on it for 3 years. I've lost about 30 pounds and most of that was slowly over the first 20 months. I am not diabetic but I have PCOS and I've always been overweight.
