| As in, “I gotta pick up the kid from school today”? Or are people overreacting if they find that offensive? |
|
Not offensive.
Unless "the kid" himself is objecting, I would ignore |
| I refer to my kid as “the munchkin” or when I’m talking about our the dogs, I refer to them as “the beasts” and sometimes my son gets lumped in with beasts, depending on how he is acting that day. |
| The kids is nasty AF |
|
overreacting
Sounds like a term of endearment being used with humor |
| I have said “ my kid” before. I think “ the kid” is kinda rude. |
| Goats have kids so yes...I do think it is a class issue. My parents always referred to us as children and I do the same. |
Your parents sound really uptight. |
8/10 I loled |
Agree. “The kid” sounds especially disconnected if talking about your own kid. |
| Are they saying “the kid” to be funny? |
| The only person I know who does this also says "the Wife." He's affecting a particular kind of persona that he thinks is funny. It's not offensive, though I do find him a little annoying. |
| My father always referred to us as “kiddo”. I think it’s condescending and rude and unkind. |
Why would it be perceived as offensive. It is grammatically incorrect, and a little dumb. But offensive? |
My kiddos don't care about slangy words for children. Although rugrats always was too much for me. Sometimes we call them "B" (for boy). Always singular. |
