Private high school after PG County Public

(Crossposted from MD public message board)

I have a current seventh grader academically excelling at her TAG middle school, but we're having misgivings about Eleanor Roosevelt's TAG program for high school. No shade to ER, but our daughter has repeatedly expressed that she finds that school's size overwhelming and would prefer to go someplace smaller. The high school she would zone into is a nonstarter for us, so I'm casting about for stories of folks who have gone private for upper grades after K-8 in PGCPS. Where did you apply? Where did you end up? How was the transition? What worked well or poorly?

Maybe Bishop McNamara or Seton to stay local. They honestly remind me of smaller publics in some ways. But the biggest challenge would be to find what schools are the best fit. Is she looking for athletics? How much of an intense academic environment does she prefer? Or does she want collaborative peers? What extracurriculars is she interested in for HS? I know of students who attended or currently attend various privates from those mentioned above to Visi, Episcopal, Madeira, Bullis, Indian Creek, etc. Without knowing more info, it's hard to make some recommendations

Not an option for you but I have a child at DeMatha for same reason.

My child is younger but living in Hyattsville, it seems clear to me that the biggest things are Catholicism and commute. There are almost no secular or even non-Catholic private school K-8 options near us but I don't think there are any secular or non-Catholic private high schools.

DD goes to Bishop Ireton in Alexandria and there are a fair number of students who commute from across the river (filtering the directory gives me over 50 students with MD addresses). Traffic over the bridge can be a pain but it's not as far as it sounds.

SSSAS has a large number of kids that come from PG County and the school offers a shuttle service (I believe at an extra cost) for certain hours. Many live in Ft. Washington. Call the school and ask.

My children are at SJC. A few kids from their K-8 go every year. No issues.

What is she looking for? What are you looking for?

Pretty much every private around and inside the Beltway has at the minimum a handful kids from PG. I know a few also got the Annapolis area school, Indian Creek, Spaulding, St. Mary's.

Lots of kids at Indian Creek fit this bill.
