The schools in this area are so strong, but I worry that the smaller schools will feel socially stifling for our DCs. Thank you for any insight. |
| Parochial schools tend ot have larger class sizes to keep costs down. |
| What do you consider “larger”? |
|
Grade sizes or class sizes?
So a school with 20 second graders or 40 second graders in two sections with twenty kids in a classroom? |
Classes or grades? |
Grades for sure, sometimes also classes. |
| Most of the K-12 schools have larger grade levels. It’s more the smaller K-8 that can be very small, and even smaller in middle school. |
| OP here. Interested in the size of the grade, not the class sizes. |
| Check out Norwood |
What size are you targeting? 20? 50? |
| It is hard to respond without knowing what size you are looking for. We are at bullis— LS is about 32 total (2 sections) in K-2, 48 total (3 sections) in 3-5, and 60-80 per grade (classes usually around 15 kids) in 6-8. It gets much bigger in US with around 150-160 per grade so there are enough kids to offer a wide range of classes and activities. It’s been a great size for our kids, with grades getting bigger as they need more options for friends and programming. |
| St. Andrew's has a grade cap of 24 kids for K-2 (2 sections) and 34 cap for grades 3-5 (2 sections). |
| OP here. Besides Bullis, are there any other schools that have 45+ students per grade starting in upper ES? |
SSSAS |
We are a class of 48 in upper ES at Bullis. Besides them, maybe Norwood? Sidwell perhaps. |
