Ghosted by recruiter who assured me I will move forward

I got contacted by a recruiter for a role at a big tech company two weeks ago. The call went great, and she said she was confident I would be moving forward and that she was going to forward my application to her manager and that I should hear back from her by the end of day. She even discussed my interview with the hiring manager. But I heard nothing back. I emailed her two days later to follow up and she did not reply. I am thinking of reaching out to her again but am worried that will sound weird. Any insights/advice?

Was your interview two weeks ago and then you followed up two days after that? I probably would have waited more than two days to follow up but that's in the past. If two weeks have passed since the call I think it is ok to follow up again to reaffirm your interest and ask about next steps. You might still be in the game, it is possible they want to do screening calls with more people and then she will discuss all the candidates with the hiring manager.

They probably decided to hold off on hiring, but you can follow up.

Hiring may have been put on hold given the economy.

Two days post interview is too soon to reach out about status. Wait 1-2 weeks in the future. But yes, ghosting is normal even if you think you will get to the next round.

I’ve interviewed at a few big tech companies and would hear back within a day- sometimes at the end of the recruiter call. Did you have an internal referral?

She may indeed have wanted to present you but her boss or the client preferred others.
