Moving to MSI Rec vs staying in Classic?

| DD in U12 - has been on MSI teams for the last 4 years, first Rec then Classic x last 2 yrs. Struggling now to keep up with current team but wants to keep playing as enjoys the current team social atmosphere but it's getting more and more competitive. Wondering if Rec is the right choice for U12, or trying to find another Classic team? Skills deficits are there but confidence is a big issue as well. Just want the best placement. Do they work on skills in Rec? Thank you! |

My kid went from rec to classic and back to rec. Their skills were strong, but the competitive parents and screaming coach wasn’t great for her confidence.
If you were to do the step back, I recommend you know that there’s a team available that your kid would enjoy playing with—coaches and kids. If your kid ends up on a team that they don’t enjoy then it’s not worth it to switch, just stay where they have friends. But if you want your kid to keep playing and enjoy the game, definitely consider stepping back. |

| An alternative, do some private lessons or clinics over the winter, amd see if she can then keep up with her friends on the Classic team with her new skills |

This is what we're thinking, as long as the coach will keep her on the team. He's pretty intense. In any case, she wants to keep playing so Rec is a good option if we need to step back. |

| The atmosphere and coaching in Classic varies so much across teams. Maybe you can scope out some of the other teams and coaches and try to find a better fit. |

| MSI Classic has 3 divisions. If your team is in division 1 or 2 you could look at a team in Division 3. Some of the larger clubs have teams in different divisions which is good for moving up or down without changing clubs. |
