NVSL Div 1 coaching shake up - true?

Anonymous
I’m hearing rumors that at least Donaldson Run and possibly other teams have fired their head coaches for undisclosed reasons. Was this tied to bad behavior or just coincidental?

It’s true for DR, though I don’t know why. Don’t know if DR counts as D1 anymore, though.

They have posted for a new one. But no ther D1.

Is that why their coach left?

I have no info on DR coach- he has been there for a really long time and is a really nice guy. I would tend to guess he decided to move on, I know he is trying to do more with swim farm.
The 'big 3' in D1 tend to have a fair amount of coach churn.

OKM’s coach is coming back, I’m pretty sure (we hope). He’s fantastic and a homegrown kid. He’s coaching at NCAP now too.

Tuckahoe has had 2 coaches in the last 10 years. That's not exactly churn.

I am hearing Donaldson Run coach was fired. No explanation was given, based on what I was told. Maybe because they went 0-5?

I would argue that a D1 NVSL coach has little control over how well their team performs. Those teams have some of the fastest club swimmers in the area.

DR coach is well regarded in swim community and is a class act. Unfortunate if DR moved on from him just because they desperately want to stay in D1 with the other teams that take summer swim way too seriously.

Agree he is generally well regarded in the community and a class act. This was about his coaching and it was time to move on. This wasn't about DR trying to vie for the division championship or keep up with other teams. This was about what was best for DR swimmers plain and simple.

What does the bolded mean, if he’s a good influence on the kids and a “class act”? Shouldn’t character development be more important than beating Chesterbrook?

Being nice doesn't make someone a good coach. This was never about beating Chesterbrook, but creating the best team environment for DR. He has been mailing it in and it showed. Still a nice guy and well regarded in the community.

This doesn't make a lot of sense. Examples?

Someone who is a nice guy, well regarded in the community and a class act sounds like the perfect *summer recreational swim league* coach.
