MCAP Social Studies

Does the 8th grade middle school US History course (either the on-level or the advanced course) prepare students for the MCAP Social Studies that they are required (not sure if it is a requirement anymore) to take at the end of 8th grade?

What does the MCAP Social Studies test?

Does the score from this particular MCAP matter and for what reason/why?

Here is a thread discussing Historical Inquiry Global Humanities classes https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1151581.page

Did the novels students read in 6th, 7th and 8th grade History courses change to better align with the ELA curriculum?

At our BTSN, the American Studies teacher said the social studies exam is about demonstrating skills (analyzing text, sourcing, etc.) and not about knowing facts and figures. In theory, if your child has been developing these skills, they should do fine.

Is that what it's called? Not US History 1 (and second part in high school)?

Do they use MCAP History test results for anything?

It’s more significant for the school and district than the individual student.

By the time scores come out, a student has already been accepted into a rigorous high school program (or not), recommended for AP Gov or APUSH (or not).

Developing those skills starts in 6th grade. A student who doesn’t start until 8th is at a severe disadvantage without intervention.

This is the enriched and accelerated version similar to HIGH 6 and 7.

Historical Inquiry into American Studies is the enriched version of the class
