How big of a PITA is changing a bunk bed sheet?

Anonymous
We have three kids and a four bedroom house but one bedroom is downstairs. I want to move the toddler upstairs and get bunk beds but I'm worried I'm going to dread changing the sheets every week. I've never had a bunk bed in my house before. How annoying is it?

Very annoying

Think crib sheet, only bigger and higher.

If they're old enough for a bunk they're old enough to change their bunk bed sheet once a week.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it a 7. The trick is that you have to get fully into the top bed and put the sheet on while you're on the bed. If you try to change it while standing on the ladder, it's not going to go well.
That said, I do not recommend bunk beds for anyone under the age of 5. Your toddler is not going to follow the rules and stay off the ladder.

Very annoying. My cleaners do it now. I wouldn't move anyone who is not 100% potty trained into a bunk.

It’s worth it to have them sharing a room. Get a really light mattress for the top bunk and you’ll be fine.

It takes me about 1-2 minutes to change a twin bed. When we had bunk beds, I'd guess changing the top took about an extra 1-2 minutes. Climb up, tuck in the two corners on the end away from the ladder. Scoot back towards the ladder, pulling the other end with you. Tuck in 3rd corner. Get off, tuck in 4th (closest to the ladder).

A touch annoying, but in the context of child-related annoyances, definitely near the bottom. This shouldn't be a factor in deciding whether to get a bunk bed.

Very, very annoying.

But maybe still worth it if it solves other more annoying issues.

Frankly, it's very annoying. We have a lofted bed for my kid that is low enough that I can get three corners on just by standing, but the last corner has to be done by actually getting up into the bed. I hate it. But it's saved us a ton of space so overall it's fine.

I can’t believe no one has recommended a quick zip sheet. I have them on my kids’ bunk beds and love them. I put an absorbent mat under it in case of accidents so I rarely have to take off the whole thing.

I tried to tell that to my DH years ago when we were planning to get a bunk bed. I was against it. I like things to be simple and practical. He said he would changed the sheets. Did he ever? He did-Maybe 4 times a year. So I end up changing and complaining every time. I just end up covering with the flat sheet.
So, it is annoying.

You shouldn’t move a child under 7 into a room with a bunk bed, it’s too much of a fall risk.

We always just pulled the bed(s) away from the wall. I can’t imagine climbing into the bed to change the sheets.

We got the Amazon version of Beddy's. It's still annoying to put on but once it's on, you have both the sheet and blanket done and the bed looks neat.
