MCPS, was it necessary to send out info about the boundary study and program analysis on three electronic channels?l

Anonymous
I just got an email, a text and a Remind message about the boundary study and program analysis and most of the text doesn't even apply to me since my child is not in middle school.

I can't opt out of text messages about this without also opting out of all text and email alerts (e.g. school closures) because they sent this as an "alert" instead of general information.

Yes, because always say they didn’t know when it comes to MCPS.

I agree that the comms could be streamlined, but I also know too many parents are unengaged and claim to miss out on key announcements and information. So better safe than sorry.

Has it occurred to you that over communication leads to disengagement? As in getting three messages about the same thing leads to parents blocking ALL alerts/Remind messages?

Also would it not be more effective to send ONE email AND send home a sheet?

Honestly you can ask any parent how overwhelming the comms are from MCPS versus daycare/preschool.

And it appears that all the QA sessions are for 6th and 7th grade parents only? Are other community stakeholders going to have avenues to vet their opinions?

Has it occurred to you that you are a pretty little snowflake?

Clearly you are new here, PP, because overcommunication in MCPS is a known problem. I have opted out of the texts but I got the email three times and I only have two kids. It's very annoying.

Has it occurred to you how small the number of affected people in preschool/daycare and that what generally needed to be communicated was mostly individual and of little consequence.

Amusing how this thread is right next to the thread of parents complaining that they know nothing about these two issues because MCPS is undercommunicating.

This is a problem on your end. You need to use tech that can filter incoming messages.

And that’s the reality of it. Nothing is ever going to please everyone.

What useful information did the message have for parents of elementary school children? There's no actual information about what the regional programs would look like, nor does it have new boundary options.

Feel free to recommend an app.

Who do I ask to opt out of the texts? Do I just reply STOP? I have tried in the app. I can either get zero alerts (email or text) or both email and text.

The difference is the communications were actually relevant to my family and was never about the preschool promoting itself. 80% of the communications from MCPS central office are shameless and ineffective self promotion.

And it's funny how my child's actual MCPS school manages to send exactly one message about any one thing. They don't spam me with three separate identitical messages on three different apps. Central office needs to take a page from our school principal who actually knows how to communicate effectively and in a way that demonstrates respect for families instead of the narcissism of central office staff.
